I like all sorts of genres, and I love a good series. However, I dislike books that portion the story out to readers in a serialized fashion over several volumes, and I refuse to buy them.
McMasters is a talented writer, and it shows in this book. Honoria is a woman with serious flaws, and the author doesn't shy away from demonstrating those flaws, but they just made me like Honoria all the more. The world building is good, but I did feel that the steampunk portion of the story wasn't particularly integral to the storyline. However, I did enjoy the story, and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
