Loren's eLiterate

I like all sorts of genres, and I love a good series. However, I dislike books that portion the story out to readers in a serialized fashion over several volumes, and I refuse to buy them.

When Lightning Strikes (Whiskey Creek) - Brenda Novak It was nice to read a book in which the lead female character is smart and strong enough overcome her self-doubt and trust her own judgement. Gail doesn't fall apart when things don't go her way; she picks herself back up and does what she needs to do. Simon - for all his many flaws - was doing his best to be a good father to his son under awful circumstances.

While some aspects of the story were a bit disappointing (the secondary characters tended to be one-dimensional), overall I enjoyed this book very much.
